The village of Pingtian is situated on a mountain ridge and consists mostly of rammed earth structures with traditional wood interiors.Following the rule of minimum intervention, the architect proposed repairing some buildings at the entrance to Pingtian village, and preserving others so that they satisfy contemporary requirements through gaining new amenities. One building has been turned into a handicraft workshop. The young designer Ye Ke studied dyeing and textile at university, and now runs the workshop for tea & indigo dyeing. His dyes are made from tea bushes and other plants on the mountains around the village. Adults and children visit his workshop to experience traditional craft techniques.
